Precision Lathe:
A Precision Lathe is a lathe used to make very detailed items using either wood, metal and other hard materials like hard plastics. Most precision lathes are computerized and use computer software programs that link to the lathe. The program is setup to make products or parts with very little waste of materials.
With the advent of these computer software programs, master craftsmen have basically been replaced by computer techies. The person running the precision lathes need to learn how to use the computer programs.
Most precision lathes can cut and shape materials to within 0.001 inches of accuracy. It works by accurately remvoing material by turning and cutting a solid material precisely as programmed by the software program.
These lathes are used to create a huge variety of products or parts, many very intricate and small like watch pieces or large like ornamental table legs -- not using the same lathe of course.
