The Powermatic company has a very interesting history! In 1921, Leonard F. Smith, Sr. sold timber and lumber in the middle Tennessee. He decided he should plane the wood himself, yet alsd decided to make his own planing machine. He made his first machine in his workshop and used it for his lumber and timber business.
His planing machine he built worked so well that it was purchased by another person. Mr. Smith then made 4 more machines and sold them. He decided the machine manufacturing business was more lucrative and thus the company was born.
Now this company is fully dedicated to the general purpose woodworking machinery market and offers a superior Powermatic Lathe.
