Many hobbiests choose a Grizzly Lathe for the features they offer and the lower cost. It should be noted that they are manufactured in China.
A Grizzly lathe is usually powered by a small motor with variable speeds. They normally have "inch" and "metric" reading dials, a chip tray, splash guard and turret tool post.
